Led by flamboyant singer Luke Spiller, who looked absolutely fabulous in his gold lame jacket, bright red shirt and tight black leather pants, the Struts ripped through a high-energy 90-minute set in front of an enthusiastic, near-capacity crowd at House of Blues last night. The UK band used the opportunity to showcase material from a forthcoming studio effort and tunes such as the new single, One Night Only, retained the Rocky Horror Picture Show/Hedwig and the Angry Inch/T. Rex/Queen vibe found on the bands other tunes and went over particularly well. It's about time rock 'n roll was fun again, Spiller said at the end of the set that included a raucous cover of Springsteens Dancing in the Dark. Canada's the Glorious Sons opened with an equally engaging set that had more of a roots rock feel thanks to singer Brett Emmons' soulful voice.
