The Most-Anticipated New Restaurants Coming to Cleveland This Fall

Angie’s Soul Café

7815 Carnegie Ave.

It’s been more than a year since we first reported that Angie’s Soul Café would be taking over the vacated Hot Sauce Williams building at Carnegie, but now we have learned that the finish line is in sight. The new restaurant is on pace to open in September, according to Akin Alafin, owner of Soul Republic United Restaurants. So we're hoping that means by October.

Dang Good Foods

13735 Madison Ave.

“When something like this lands in your lap, you better take it,” Daniel Ang says. He is referring to a storefront space in Lakewood that will become the new home for Dang Good Foods, the food truck that he rolled out just four months ago. The space (13735 Madison Ave.), which for the past three and a half years has been home to Thai Thai, will become available this December when that popular eatery relocates to larger quarters just a couple blocks down the street.

Boaz Café

20630 John Carroll Blvd., University Heights

Aladdin's Eatery unveiled its health-focused, fast-casual spinoff Boaz Café two years ago in Ohio City (2549 Lorain Ave., 216-458-9225) with eyes on future expansion. The first phase of those expansion plans will occur this fall when the company unveils its new East Side location. Boaz is moving into the former Sweet Melissa space in University Heights, near the campus of John Carroll University.

Salted Dough Artisan Pizza

9174 Broadview Rd., Broadview Heights

From Chef Jeff Fisher, the master behind Crust and Touch Supper Club, comes a new pizzeria in Broadview Heights. The restaurant will focus its energy on the pizza — thin-crusted, deck-oven baked, large to gigantically proportioned — but it will also offer a broader menu of American and Italian selections. Even more, Fisher says they’re considering a 40-inch pizza, the biggest in the state.

Condado Tacos

Crocker Park, Westlake

Columbus-based taco chain Condado Tacos is adding its second Northeast Ohio location in Crocker Park later this year. The restaurant offers a build-your-own taco option, with queso, salsa and guac sides, as well as an extensive drink and margarita menu.

Burgerim

17100 Royalton Rd., Strongsville

Ledgewood Plaza in Strongsville is getting a branch of the Israel-based gourmet hamburger chain, Burgerim (“many burgers” in Hebrew). The restaurant offers burgers made from traditional Angus, dry-aged and Spanish beef, as well as Hawaiian salmon, falafel and lamb. Burgeim also offers a build-your-own-burger option, where customers can choose between two types of buns, 10 proteins, four cheeses, eight sauces and 11 toppings.

Cent’s Pizzeria

5010 Lorain Ave., Cleveland

Formerly home to PM Security, a sturdy brick building on the eastern edge of Detroit Shoreway will undergo significant renovations by the landlord before being handed over to Vincent Morelli, who has been working for the past year to open his own pizza shop. When he’s done with it, hopefully this fall, he’ll open Cent’s Pizzeria.

Goma

Park Ave., Orange Village

A Japanese fusion concept created by James Beard Award-nominated chef Dante Boccuzzi, Goma is slated to open hopefully this fall at Pinecrest. The restaurant will offer an extensive selection of sushi rolls and shareable plates, as well as a full sake menu including sake-infused cocktails.

Hampton Social

Flats East Bank

The Chicago-based Hampton Social is among four new restaurants and nightclubs set to be installed along a chunk of land bordering the waterfront in the Flats East Bank. Specializing in seafood, the modern and sleek restaurant will also include a speakeasy-type bar and music lounge called the Bassment underneath the dining area. While there is currently no set-date for opening, Flats East Bank developer Scott Wolstein expects to request financing for the project from the city council sometime this year.

Hola Tacos

12102 Madison Ave.

Since opening Barroco Arepa Bar in Lakewood (12906 Madison Ave., 216-221-8127) back in 2011, the Vergara family has continued to spread its unique blend of food, service and setting across Northeast Ohio. Next up for the productive clan is Hola Tacos, a funky taco stand that will take over the now-closed Gorilla space in Lakewood. They'd hoped to be open by late summer. We're hoping for fall.
