Scenes From Nastassja E. Swift’s Parade Project

Current SPACES Artist-in-Residence Nastassja E. Swift presented a youth-led parade that celebrated Black joy. The youth band was supervised by trumpeter Theresa May. The route began at St. John’s Episcopal Church (otherwise known as Station Hope) and ended at Whiskey Island, the site where enslaved Africans set sail to Canada in search of their freedom. Here's what we saw.
