A Nightmare Before — A Tim Burton Inspired Burlesque Revue 
When: Thu., Oct. 27
Performers dressed as characters from Tim Burton films will be on hand for tonight’s A Nightmare Before - A Tim Burton Inspired Burlesque Revue, which takes place at 7:30 at the Beachland Ballroom. Headliner King Phantom, from California, has been featured in the documentary, The Making of A King- A Drag King. He focuses on large scale characters such as Jack Skellington to Edward Scissor hands. Cherie Blondell, a Columbus based, multi-national award-winning burlesque performer and producer, will also perform. The show also features local starlet Noella DeVille as Poison Ivy and Mrs Lovett. Bella Sin hosts. Costumes are encouraged! Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

To celebrate Halloween, the Phantasy Nite Club will host what it hopes will become the first of many Monster Bashes. DJs Eddy Lengyl, Allyssa and Deb will be on hand and the club will screen the horror flicks Scarred and Chill, the Killing Games. Doors open at 8 p.m.; tickets are $8. Admission includes one free drink ticket if you arrive before 10:30. The first 50 people will receive a free DVD, and there will be a “scream queen” and “scream queer contest.” (Courtesy Facebook)

Jasper Wood's Cleveland

For its latest exhibition, Canopy has partnered with the Cleveland Public Library. Jasper Wood’s Cleveland offers a glimpse into this Cleveland photographer’s work in and around Scovill Ave. and the Central neighborhood in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The exhibition, includes 20 photographs and a digital presentation of his short film, Streetcar, marks the first time the library has done this kind of community outreach with its photo archives. These images and film were selected from over 800 items in the Jasper Wood Collection in CPL’s Photograph Collection, Center for Local & Global History. Jasper Wood’s Cleveland opens with a reception at Canopy from 6 to 10 tonight. The exhibition remains on view through Nov. 14. Free.

Billed as the premier macabre Halloween masquerade party for adults, Masque of the Red Death Halloween Ball promises to be "a most macabre, artfully elegant, daring, dramatic and decadent masquerade party." The $75 ticket for the event event, which takes place tonight at 8 at the Akron Civic Theatre, includes a full bar, signature cocktail, light hors d'oeuvres and entertainment all evening. The $85 ticket gets you all the forementioned plus a 10-minute reading with a psychic.

A Studio Tour

As part of its 20th Anniversary Founder’s Exhibition, the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve will host a series of private studio tours of AAWR founder David E. Davis’ studio as well as a selection of other early supporting artists. The ongoing series continues with a visit to William Martin Jean’s studio in the Tower Press building at 1 p.m. today. The cost is $10 for current AAWR members and $20 for non-members. To attend, reserve tickets via Eventbrite or by calling the AAWR office.

Celebrating the first comic book superhero ever created — which, if you didn't know, took place right here in Cleveland, Halloween Spooktacular: Superman at the Symphony features music from John Williams’s score for the movie Superman and Michael Daugherty’s Metropolis Symphony, accompanied by classic images of the Man of Steel. The annual Halloween Costume Contest begins at 2 p.m. There is a special prize category for the best Superman or Superwoman. The concert begins at 3 p.m. Tickets start at $15.
